Not about the Ritual
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 8/31/2010 8:31 AM
Our church has begun a New Testament challenge to read through all of the New Testament in the next nine weeks. In going back through some of the New Testament books, I was reminded again and again what God desires out of a true heart of worship. He is not looking for the rituals and the observance of the laws. He is looking for a changed heart that longs solely to be with Him and know Him more deeply and intimately than before.

My Strength and My Portion
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 8/31/2010 8:21 AM
This week’s verse is a follow up verse from last week. Last week, we learned Psalm 73:25 which says, “Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.” Thisweek we will learn Psalm 73:26 which says, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” The Hebrew transliteration for the word “fail” is raphah. It means “to sink, relax, sink down, let drop, to be disheartened, to refrain, let alone, to show oneself slack.”

He Calls Me Friend
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 8/27/2010 6:36 PM
I love my friends. God has blessed me beyond measure with such amazing friends. I had lunch with some of them the other day. We had a laughter episode during our lunch. I found myself laughing so hard I was crying, and the muscles in my stomach were hurting. I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard! It felt so good to be with my Sisters and be filled with the joy of the Lord. When I left, I was full of gratitude and thankfulness for the blessing they are to me.

Warning Bells

Several months ago, we were watching the weather before heading off to bed. A pretty nasty line of storms was slowly making its way across the state and eventually appeared that it would be heading in our direction. In some of the other states it had crossed, it had spawned severe thunderstorms and even tornados.

The Judgment Seat of Christ
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 8/25/2010 11:55 AM
Paul said that all believers will stand before the judgment seat of Christ and give an account of our lives on earth. Jesus will hold the court. On earth, He stood before Jewish leaders, Pilate, and Herod. In heaven, believers who died and then resurrected or were raptured will appear before Him to be judged for their faithfulness to God.

Whom Have I but You?
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 8/25/2010 11:54 AM
This week’s verse is from the psalms. Actually, it’s a psalm of Asaph. It says, “Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.” Through the question, “Whom have I in heaven but you,” he is saying, “You are all I have! Everyone else may leave me. They may let me down. They make turn their backs on me.

Proved True

Joseph knew that God had given him a promise. In Genesis 37, seventeen-year old Joseph has a dream that his brothers’ sheaves of grain bowed down to his sheaves. He told his ten brothers his dream. They knew that their father loved him more than any of them. He had given Joseph a richly ornamented robe. Joseph had already infuriated the brothers by bringing their father a bad report about them while they were tending the flocks.

Peace for the Believer

Do you receive lots of email warnings about the times we live in and the disaster that is coming on the United States as efforts are underway to take every Christ related activity out of the public eye? On the other hand, we also are hearing prophetic words that a great revival will start on the West Coast and sweep our country.

Nothing Can Separate Us

Do you remember the old game that we used to play out in the yard, “Red Rover, Red Rover?” Children would stand in two lines facing each other and would link arms or hands. Then, you would call out to an individual on the other team by saying, “Red Rover, Red Rover, we dare Shirley to come over.”

The Wellspring of Life
Devotions and Christ Compels Updates 8/18/2010 1:18 PM
In Matthew 12:33-35, Jesus tells us that out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. Our speech is reflective of our hearts. In Matthew 15:16-20, Jesus tells us that our actions come from our hearts. If we want to be women who speak and give blessings to our loved ones, coworkers, neighbors, and friends, then we must go to the source of the flow.
