Christ Compels Daily Devotions

Son Shine
9/15/2009 4:05 AM
We have been at the lake numerous times over the last several months, and no matter what month we have been there, the weather has been completely odd for this time of year. Even in the dead of summer, during the months of July and August, the temperatures rarely got above 80 degrees F, and it typically rained at least one period in the day, with clouds covering the sky the majority of the other times. Other years, we were lucky to be below 100 degrees F with little to no cloud cover for any protection from the sun.

My Daily Planner
9/14/2009 4:58 PM
Oh, the thought of opening up my daily planner right now just makes me want to cringe inside mentally. Every hour of every day for the next several weeks is booked solid, and in some areas there are double bookings and even triple bookings. My day consists of getting up around 5:00 a.m. and barreling through every minute until collapsing into my bed around 11:00 p.m. with just enough time to sleep before starting the next jam-packed day.

Do You Hear Me?
9/11/2009 8:42 AM
Are there times when you want to just scream at God, “Do you hear me?” or “Are you listening?” Apparently the Psalmist did since that is what he is saying in the verse above…..”Answer me when I call to you!” I will admit to you now that over my lifetime there have been numerous times that I have screamed up at God demanding attention from Him to hear me and whatever I was facing at the time.

Are you Robbing God?
9/10/2009 4:14 AM
When I was a teenager, I got a Ford Escort to drive around town. I thought it was the coolest vehicle on earth and painted it black with pink pinstripes and had a very loud stereo system installed in the hatch part of it. I had a personalized license plate with SHAUNA on it and the cutest pink-haired troll hanging from my rear-view mirror.

Born Again
9/9/2009 4:23 AM
When Jesus met with Nicodemus late one night, He told him that he must be “born again” in order to see the kingdom of God. Being “born again” made no sense to Nicodemus. Nicodemus thought his first birth as a Jew would be sufficient to enter the kingdom of heaven. Jesus did not say position, power, religious acts, knowledge of the Law, or adherence to traditions would save Nicodemus. If works could grant you access to heaven, this man had the credentials to be escorted in.

Abiding Brings Resemblance
9/8/2009 4:23 AM
After my precious adopted daughter Victoria had lived with us for several months, my friend Catherine made the most interesting comment to me. She said, “Shirley, there is no question that Victoria is a Mitchell girl. She has taken on your family’s mannerisms, speech, facial expressions, tone of voice, and actions. She acts just like you all.” I had not realized it since the change was gradual, but Catherine was right. Victoria looked just like us.

The Lighted Path
9/8/2009 4:07 AM
Recently I was sure I was guided in a ministry speaking opportunity to promote unity among denominations and races. The people making the decision did not accept my proposal. I was somewhat puzzled. Did I misunderstand the Lord (My hearing is not perfect.), or was I out of His timing? It seemed like the right thing. I had spent a lot of time praying over it. What happened here?

Restored Dignity
9/3/2009 10:44 AM
When Jesus met the women at the well, He offered her the gift of God first. Then, He confronted her sin which He knew His gift could heal. While the woman spoke a true statement that she had no husband, Jesus would not let her sidestep the issue. He also did not lecture her about her sin. He did not pull out His tract of the 10 commandments and point His finger at the Law.

Holy, Holy, Holy
9/2/2009 4:10 AM
Have you stopped to think lately as you hustle to and fro through this life that you and I as believers in Christ will spend eternity in heaven? The sights and sounds of this world will disappear and be replaced with a perfect place of no pollution, no defilement, no aging, no decay, no wilted flowers, and no imperfection. Nothing will need to ever be repaired or replaced.

Those Guilty Stains
8/31/2009 12:12 PM
Picking up my little girl, Grace, from preschool is such a fun time. We talk the whole way home about her day - what she has done, who she played with, what types of activities she did, and crafts she made. But, most importantly we talk about what she has eaten throughout the day – from breakfast in the morning, all the way through snack time in the afternoon. Now, there are times when I have to hold my tongue when she is trying to tell me about her lunch because I already have a pretty good idea what it might have been without seeing her papers or hearing her stories. How you might ask? Because the front of her shirt is covered in stains from the day’s meals – especially tomato soup.
