The words “Heart of the Father” have been stirring in my spirit for several weeks. I am desperate to know His heart and to feel every beat it makes. I want to know what is important to Him and what He takes great delight in. I want to be more like Him in every area of my life. I want my heart beating for the same thing His does.

God gave me the most precious word this summer. It was a hard word. Actually, it was a rebuke. After I finished videotaping Jesus Lives, I knew that God was leading me to study Elijah and write a study. However, I still had to edit the printed version of Jesus Lives, write two devotions a week, tend to the things that I neglected for four years, and learn a new role at work (development cryptography manager – yeh, hard enough to pronounce, imagine how many brain cells it took to learn about that subject!) All of these required a step back into my home and out of the public teaching ministry. It has stunted my progress in the writing of Elijah.

This poor woman had been suffering from bleeding for years. We do not know for sure what her affliction was, but we know that she had been suffering from it for twelve years. She had even bankrupted herself at the hands of all the doctors and physicians to try to find relief; only none came. My heart just breaks for this sweet woman who only wanted to be healed and lead a normal life with her friends and family.

Nathan, our six year old, like most children his age, struggles with what it means to truly be a servant. He constantly wants to be the center of attention and to be recognized for what he has accomplished. Aren’t we all like that sometimes! And, if he has to do so to the detriment of his little sister, then so be it!

When I went to Israel at the beginning of the year, many people asked me if I was concerned about going to the most volatile place in the world and in all of the history of mankind. In addition to this, my friend had a vision of where people had been harmed, but she didn’t know if it was our trip or not. As much as I understand people’s concern over the volatile region and as much as I esteem the Spirit of the Lord in my friend, I knew one thing.

The Tango of the Two Realities |

I once heard a pastor speak about balancing the “now” and the “not yet.” His sermon was regarding our present state in a world consumed with a dated calendar and our eternal existence unrestrained by time. I suggest that we also engage in a different tango of two realities: who we are at the present and who God has destined us to become. I call this a tango because it is indeed a dance that we all must master.

A few years ago, I attended Lifeway’s Women Leadership forum in Nashville, TN. I had a pivotal moment with God in a prayer time led by Leighann McCoy. She had us call out attributes of God. The first thing that came to my mind was, “Lord, You are holy.” Then, she read Psalm 42. God spoke to me during verses 5-6 which say, “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. My soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon – from MountMizar.”

Our children love to tell on each other. To them, there is something fulfilling about being able to come to Mom or Dad and let us know that the other is doing something we would probably not approve of or have told them not to do. The reason they come to tell us what is happening is not because of some need to ensure that the other does not get hurt or does something wrong. The reason they come to tell us is to ensure that we know they are not the ones doing anything wrong.

Can you just imagine what Abram and especially Sarah were feeling after they got this message? At least Abram got to hear the message directly from God while Sarah was probably taken completely by surprise when her husband came walking in later that night and relayed the good news. “Sarah, dear one, we are moving,” Abram says. “Where to, honey?” Sarah sweetly asks. “I have no idea,” Abram quickly responds. “We just have to go where God leads us.”

A little while ago, God gave me the most wonderful birthday present. He allowed me to return to the island that I love for one day. The devotion “Redeeming the Land” tells you more about the importance of this trip to Guam.
While I was in Guam, I rented a jet ski for one hour in a place called Tumon Bay. When I lived there previously, I learned to jet ski, and it was one of my favorite pastimes.
