God’s Perfect Plan
By Kendra Osborn

“For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

Last year my youngest son had surgery to remove his tonsils and adenoids.  At the time, he was only four, but the doctor felt he had signs of sleep apnea. He had a constant battle to breathe normally.  This affected a lot of his daily routine. It really made his life miserable in areas that I took for granted.

I really hated to see him go through surgery, but I knew it was for his own good.  What I dreaded was the days following the surgery.  I knew he would be in a lot of pain, and because of his age, he wouldn’t really understand why.  He knew he would be going to sleep so they could “fix” his throat, but he had no idea what he would wake up to.

While he was in recovery, the doctor came to tell us how he did and discuss the plan he had for him during his recovery at home.  The doctor explained the process of healing and what medicines to give him and when to give them.  I knew it would be challenging for my son to swallow the medicine, but I felt confident I could do this.

The first week was a challenge in deed.  I would have done anything to take away his pain, and he had pain.  I felt so bad for him because he didn’t understand what was going on. He looked to me to help him.  Getting him to swallow the medicine was harder than I thought it would be.

I remember one night he woke up in severe pain.  There was no calming him down.  I prepared the medicine as the doctor had instructed. I attempted to administer it.  The first try was unsuccessful as I felt the medicine shower my face.  I sat there holding him while he screamed, tears running down his face.  I tried to comfort him and encouraged him to stop crying because he would make his throat even more sore.  He wasn’t buying into my words so I started to beg him to take his medicine with the promise if he did it would ease his pain so he could sleep.  I knew if he didn’t become willing and take the medicine on his own I would have to force him to take it knowing it would be for his own good.

As I sat there with the medicine in one hand, holding him in the other God spoke to me in that still small voice.  He said “Kendra, this is what you have acted like as a wounded daughter of mine.  I have held you when you’ve been in extreme pain, screaming and crying for help. The whole time I extended the one thing that would bring healing, but you were unwilling to accept my offer.”  As soon as I heard the Lord, I saw it clearly.  I had a plan for my son that would ease his pain so he could heal, but he rejected it not knowing what I had to offer.  He didn’t trust me because he feared it would cause more pain.  No matter how many times I told him the plan or how long I begged him to accept what I had he didn’t trust me.

How often do we reject what God has for us?  I had to force the medicine down my son so he could find rest but God won’t do that.  Not only does He extend His plan of salvation, healing, grace, and mercy but He has a specific plan for your life. There is a call He has for each of us but He won’t force it on us.  He is a gentleman, and we have free will.  He desires His best for us, but it’s up to us to willingly accept His offer.

God’s plans are not to hurt us but to give us peace, hope, and a future. His plan is perfect, but if we don’t trust Him and accept what He has for us, His plans may never be revealed.  God is constantly thinking of us.  He never stops; yet, we can turn our heads at all He has for us.

Don’t you want to know the plans He has for you?  His plan for you was thought out long before the creation of the world. Ephesians 1:4 says, “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.”            Let God reveal all He has for you and enjoy the life He’s given you. Ephesians 1:11 says, In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.”

Pray with me: Abba Father, how precious You are and how I adore You.  I praise Your Holy name and proclaim with my mouth You are the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  I offer my body as a living sacrifice, holy, and pleasing to You today. God, thank You for Your ways and for the plans You have for my life.  How I praise You for offering me healing, grace, peace, mercy, and salvation!  How powerful You are, Lord God, and how I pray I will run to You with open arms embracing all You have for me.

Show me your ways, Lord.  I want to know the plans You have for me and my heart’s desire is to fulfill my destiny.  God prepare me, equip me, guide me, and direct me Lord.  I know I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me.  I pray against the spirit of fear for fear is not from You Lord.  I pray Your plans will prevail and triumph over my life. It would be all for Your glory.

Use me Lord for Your Kingdom plans so this side of heaven would worship You more and more and that the other side of heaven would be even more packed with Your saints. Reveal Your plans for us, Lord, and let us grieve the thought of living our life apart from You and Your will for us. Lord, how I praise You and thank You for never giving up on me no matter where I am or where I find myself.  You are the great I Am. I pray all I do would be a sweet and pleasing aroma to You.  In the name above all names, Yeshua, I pray.  Amen!
