He Calls Your Name
By Ginger Moore
On Fridays, we like to welcome some of our special friends to join us at Christ Compels Ministries. Today, we are honored to have Ginger Moore, of Speaking Thru Me Ministries, join us as our guest devotional writer.
“I will give you the treasures of darkness, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.”
Isaiah 45:3
Recently my 8 year old, Savannah, said, "Mom, I know that God can speak all the languages like English, Spanish, and French, but what language does He speak the most? Or, which one do you think is His favorite?"
I responded, “Honey, my guess would be that He really likes English because that's the way He speaks to you. He speaks to you in your heart when you pray and read your Bible.”
She jumps to her feet and shouts, "You are telling me! The other day I was being really mean to people and unkind to them. Then, at church I read in my Bible where God says to be kind to everyone. I knew He was talking to me so I had to start being kind again!!"
Just think, God calls us by name, and He speaks our language! He actually desires to speak to us. As a Christian, if you are willing to listen to God - He has something that He wants to tell YOU. Maybe you are the only person He is calling at this time to take on a particular task at your church. Maybe, like in Savannah’s case, He is pointing out to you a sin issue that needs to be resolved.
It's awesome for me to think that one day in Sunday School - God called Savannah by name. She's only 8 years old! But she heard Him; her tender heart was listening.
It is my prayer today that you recognize God when He is calling your name.
Pray with me: Precious Lord, my Abba – Father. Thank You for wanting to speak to me. Thank You for calling me by my name. I pray that my ears will be open to what You have to say to me today. God – give me the ability to discern Your voice. Be persistent in Your calling to me so that I will know without any doubt that it is You, Lord. Use Your Word to confirm what You would have me to do for Your glory. Speak to my heart. Use other believers to speak words of affirmation to me as I seek Your will. Show me the riches that You have stored for me in secret places. I love You, Lord, and I want to humbly walk in obedience to You. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
