Revealed
By Kendra Osborn
“The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.”
Deuteronomy 29:29 (NIV)
My son loves going to Kid’s Place. It’s this huge indoor playground and his opportunity to exert a ton of energy. I have come to appreciate such a place because it allows me to have some “me time” and read or study. Even amidst all the noise of screaming kids and the sound of games I am able to focus my attention and get a lot done.
During a recent visit to Kid’s Place the Lord taught my youngest son something I pray he never forgets. Tyler had been playing games with all the tokens he had and ended up with several tickets. He was happy to redeem his mound of tickets and claim a prize that lay behind the glass case. After a few minutes he returned to the table with an opened package revealing an airplane that required some assembly.
As we figured out where the pieces went we got to the very last step, putting on the little red propellers. A problem quickly arose; we only had 3 of the 4 propellers we needed to complete the assembly. Tyler was obviously upset so I encouraged him to go back to the place where he opened the package and look for the missing propeller. After returning for the second time with no success I told Tyler to ask God to reveal the missing piece and show him where it is.
Tyler’s immediate response was lacking in faith and he said “God won’t talk to me; I can’t even hear His voice.” I grabbed Tyler’s arm before he ran off and repeated what I had said with the emphasis on asking God to reveal it. I told Tyler I didn’t ask him to ask the Lord to speak to him but to reveal something that was lost. Tyler still wasn’t going for the idea so I prayed to the Lord and asked Him to reveal the tiny red propeller as we were walking out to leave. I asked the Lord to show Tyler how big He is and how good He is even in the small things.
Well, our time at Kid’s Place had come to an end and we were heading for the exit. As I approached the area where the kid’s claim their prizes I began to scan the floor. On our way out I found that tiny red propeller, still in one piece, on the red part of the floor. It was blended in so well that it was easy to miss unless you were searching for it as for hidden treasure.
You can only imagine how I praised God for His faithfulness in such small things and how He loved Tyler so much He would display that love by revealing a small toy. When I called Tyler and showed him what God had revealed I didn’t think the child would ever stop smiling. He was amazed that God really did reveal the missing propeller.
Do you know that the Lord our God is The Revealer? His Word is full of the things He has revealed or will reveal. We limit our knowledge and believe the only thing He reveals is our sin. Yes, that is true, He does reveal our sin but after Tyler’s experience and watching my Heavenly Father reveal who He is to my precious baby boy I was drawn to His Word to find out what else He reveals.
He is the one who reveals Himself to those who love Him and keep His commands. He reveals the work of man, lawlessness, mysteries, plans, His thoughts, His wrath, His righteousness, His love, His compassion, His mercy, His justice and His glory. He reveals riches from the secret places, treasures from the darkness, deep and hidden things, His laws, and secrets of the heart. He reveals Himself through His word, He revealed himself to the Israelites as a cloud by day and fire by night. He reveals himself through all of creation. When He returns on that glorious day He will reveal His might and power and every knee will bow and tongue confess. And on that day He will reveal the sons of God.
Sisters, take heart and have faith He will reveal everything in His time proving He is who He says He is. I want to encourage you right where you are. If you are in a marriage that is struggling, have relationships that are strained or have children who are taking the wide and open road; believe Him to be the One who reveals all things. Rest in these promises:
“For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed (revealed), and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.” Mark 4:22
“He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness…” Daniel 2:22
“There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed (revealed), or hidden that will not be made known.” Luke 12:2
“He reveals the deep things of darkness and brings deep shadows into the light.” Job 12:22
Strong and mighty is the Lord our God who is quick to save, slow to anger, abounding in love and full of mercy and compassion. If the Creator of the universe cares enough to reveal a tiny red propeller to a child how much more will He care about your deepest wounds and struggles and reveal what is hidden. You are not struggling alone, God is there and He can see even the things you can’t see. You may have a “feeling” but don’t understand or can’t explain what it is. Stop trying. Let God be God in your life and let Him reveal those things in His time.
Embrace the season you're in and trust the Father. Don't dwell on the past nor worry about tomorrow. There is something God has for you today. If you're always looking back or trying to guess the future it's likely you'll miss the blessing of today. There's a gift God has for you in the moment even if it's to teach you something or prepare you for what's ahead. The gift is to be had as He reveals it.
Pray with me: Abba Father, You are Holy and I bless Your name today. You are my glorious redeemer and the One who reveals all things. I praise You today for being my all in all and for loving me so much.
Help me to follow Your ways, seek Your face and trust that You will reveal the hidden things in my life and in my family’s life in Your perfect timing using it for Your glory. Help me to acknowledge Your ways and to trust You are here in the midst of my struggle and heartache. I know You care even about the smallest of things and You are faithful and true and I am not alone. I do not need to be afraid. Help me Lord to pray to be an over comer by praying Your word and believing not only in You but believing You!
I pray with great faith today Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, the name that is above all names and by the blood that washed me white as snow and set me free. Amen!
