In the Arms of Jesus
By Kendra Osborn
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! 1 John 3:1 (NIV)
It had been a week since I had seen my youngest son. He had spent the week in Tennessee with my husband’s family and was so excited to be there. My sister-in-law had driven to Lexington and I was to meet them for dinner to pick him up. I was so excited to see my little guy. He is four years old and he is full of joy and wonder. The house was definitely empty without him and I was ready to have him back home.
When I got to the restaurant they were already seated. He wasn’t paying attention to the door but my sister-in-law saw me and told him to look my way. When he looked up a huge smile came across his face and he jumped out of the booth and ran my way. Once he got to me, I got down on my knees to hold him. What happened at that moment was so wonderful, it felt like we were the only ones there and everything around us had stopped.
As I held him in my arms he began to laugh with delight. He was patting my back with his little hand and giggling uncontrollably. He was so full of happiness because he was back in his mommy’s arms. His joy was overflowing and uncontainable. His laughter flowed out of him like water flowing from a spring. He couldn’t stop it.
Every so often, in between his laughing, he would say “Mama” and then go right back into laughing and giggling as we sat there embracing each other. I was soaking all of it in and as I held on to him and absorbed all this love, I had a vision from the Lord.
I saw what was happening in that moment between me and my son was a picture of the bride in the arms of Jesus. As I dwelled in the absolute delight of my son being caught up in my love and me in his. The Lord said, “This is a picture of my bride in my arms when I come back for her.” What joy and laughter there will be as we embrace and are united together for eternity!
Then He made it more personal. He said, “Kendra, this is what you will do the day you run into my arms. You will laugh with delight and every so often say “Abba, Daddy”. Our Father lavishes His love on us because we are His children! He loves us and we are His!! Sisters, the moment I shared with my little one cannot compare to the day we are in the arms of our Abba Father, our Daddy, Yeshua.
Pray with me: Jesus, how we eagerly wait, with great anticipation, for the day we are in Your arms. We will laugh and giggle with delight to be in the arms of the One who lavishes His love on us. I can only imagine saying Your name as we embrace and twirl around with great delight. Oh Lord! You are so good and Your love is never ending. How we love You, Father! Thank You for lavishing Your love on us. Thank You for taking such delight in us as your daughters! Thank You for those moments when You reveal your love for us through the embrace of a child. God let us become like the little children and allow ourselves to melt into Your arms with laughter. You are the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. You are high and lifted up and we praise Your Holy name! In the precious and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen!
